Our Story
Founded in 2024, RuraRide was born in Tafelkop, Limpopo, out of a real need: rural residents were standing by the roadside, hoping for transport, often relying on word of mouth or informal “Purupuruwana” cars to get around. What started as a small initiative to bring structure and dignity to rural transport is now expanding into a reliable digital mobility solution for rural South Africa.
Our founder, Nolo Rakgetse, grew up in a rural community and experienced firsthand the challenges of transportation in areas with limited public transit. This inspired him to create a platform that connects rural residents with local drivers, ensuring that everyone has access to reliable transportation.
Today, RuraRide is focused on building strong relationships within the communities we serve. We're not just a ride-sharing service; we're a community-based solution that understands the unique needs of rural transportation.

Our Journey
🚩 Founded in Tafelkop, Limpopo
RuraRide was launched in the heart of Limpopo with a mission to revolutionize mobility in rural communities, starting with the unique realities of Tafelkop.
🛻 First Community Pilot
We began by embracing and digitizing the traditional “Purupuruwana” system, where people relied on word-of-mouth or roadside waiting to find transport. We connected local drivers and passengers through early-stage coordination tools.
📱 Web Platform Launch
Our full digital platform built for both web, officially went live to give passengers real-time booking, maps, driver matching, and more, tailored for rural needs.
🌍 Regional Expansion
From our Tafelkop roots, we’re now bringing reliable transport access to nearby villages, schools, clinics, local businesses, and SASSA grant centers.
